Contractor engagement platform Sense raises $13.5 Mn in Series B funding

The US-based startup also launches a new 1:1 SMS solution that allows recruiters to personalize interactions throughout the employment cycle, from before the contractor’s first interview through their redeployment.
Contractor engagement platform Sense raises $13.5 Mn in Series B funding

Launched in late 2017, Sense, contractor engagement platform has raised $13.5 Mn in Series B funding led by GV with participation from Accel. With this funding, the enterprise-ready company’s total funding stands at $23.5 Mn.

The money raised from will be used to accelerate investment in R&D and sales, providing support for Sense’s rapidly growing customer base.

Speaking of expansion, Sense has also launched 'Messaging', a 1:1 SMS solution that allows recruiters to personalize interactions throughout the employment cycle. 

Launched in 2017, Sense has engaged with over 20 million candidates within the United States till now and is being used by staffing firms like Adecco, Apex Systems, and the Staffmark Group, a Recruit Global Staffing company. 

Engaging contingent workforce: How Sense is helping staffing firms 

A report suggests that by 2020, contingent workers are expected to comprise 43 percent of the US workforce, increasing by nearly 10 percent in less than five years. And the $461 Bn global staffing industry is the traditional employer of the contingent workforce, making their interactions throughout the recruiting and employment cycle increasingly consequential. 

The team of Sense has hence taken upon themselves to enhance the communication and engagement of the contingent workforce.  They believe that more than any other factor, communicating information at the right moment and on the proper channel has become a defining element of success.

“This funding and our growth to date reflect the accelerating shift in the way that staffing companies approach candidate engagement, talent communication, and business performance,” shared Anil Dharni, CEO and co-founder of Sense. 

He explained how human interaction is at the heart of Sense and told that through data-driven planning and decision making, Sense bringing that to staffing at scale.

By establishing and quantifying these hyper-personalized relationships with their candidates, staffing firms would have better insight into not only their performance but it also helps them in improving the quality of their placements, referrals, and repeat interactions at scale. 

To further deep dive into the various products that Sense provides, there is Sense Messaging that allows recruiters to seamlessly and personally communicate with candidates by SMS and WhatsApp. On the other hand, there is Sense Journeys, the company’s engagement platform, which allows them to access contextual information, and their Applicant Tracking System. 

The US-based firm claims that Sense Messaging increases redeployment rates by up to 20 percent and delivers higher engagement between recruiters and candidates—90 percent of people read texts within three minutes. 

One of the users of Sense tools, Joyce Russell, President, Adecco Group US Foundation, shared, “Sense significantly helped us strengthen our engagement with our workforce, ensure much higher response rate on surveys and achieve a faster turnaround when sharing information and communications.”

In the war for talent, Sense’s solution can help the staffing industry in improving contractor engagement and redeployment rates. But it would have to keep up with the developments and innovations in the space. As many players keep entering the space and introducing newer technologies. Sense has to keep its product and solutions unique and keep learning from the competition.
