Surina Shukri exits Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation relinquishing the post of Chief Executive Officer

Surina Shukri, who led the 'Reinvent' mission and served the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation as Chief Executive Officer since 2019, is departing to pursue her interests. She will step down from the position with effect from 31 August, 2021.

Surina Shukri, Chief Executive Officer at Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation is exiting the company after serving for more than two years. Shukri will step down from the role of CEO by August 31, 2021.

Surina became part of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation in the year 2019 and since then, she has been working with the company as Chief Executive Officer. During her tenure, she led and successfully executed the 'Reinvent' mission. Shukri also played a major role in establishing digital and technology as a national agenda with the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint  or MyDIGITAL and the National 4IR Policy.

On renouncing her role as CEO and her experience with the company so far, Surina said, “It has been an absolute privilege to lead MDEC and the nation’s digital economy agenda forward through the unexpected changes and significant challenges over the past two years and seven months. I am proud of what the team at MDEC has accomplished in these circumstances, focused on firmly establishing our beloved Malaysia as the Heart of Digital ASEAN. I am confident this team will continue to build on the successes that have been achieved to fully deliver on our mandate to the people and nation".

Surina Shukri has earned a number of recognitions including her name in the World’s 50 Most Influential People Revolutionising Governance in the Agile 50 list compiled by Apolitical and the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Agile Governance in 2020.

Datuk Wira Dr Hj. Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff, Chairman, MDEC, on Surina's resignation, thanked her and lauded her contributions to the company, with regard to 'Reinvent' mission and the nation's digital transformation agenda. All the board members appreciated her service with the company and wished her luck for future accomplishments.
