As the focus of carmakers, ride-hailing, and food delivery apps moves towards using electric vehicles, a new training program has been launched by the National Trades Union Congress to train the delivery executives in operating e-scooters and e-bicycles. 

About 2000 delivery executives will be trained with the funding that has been secured currently and the training will cover topics such as code of conduct on roads, first-aid skills, etc. 

In an effort to help about 7,000 e-scooter food delivery executives who are grappling with the e-scooter footpath path, this training program will also include a Delivery Rider Kit program that is being developed by NTUC in partnership with SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), Workforce Singapore (WSG), and the Land Transport Authority (LTA). 

This new training program is yet another step taken by companies and the government towards helping riders move towards greener vehicles. Previously, the $7 Mn scheme that subsidised more than 2,500 food delivery riders to trade in their e-scooters for e-bikes, had been co-funded by food delivery companies such as Grab, Deliveroo, and Foodpanda, along with LTA. 

The new training program consists of five one-day courses that cover hard and soft skills that also cover “engaging customers in a positive way and win their trust and support,” according to the NTUC. 

About 90 percent of the course fees will be subsidized by authorities such as NTUC, SSG, WSG, and LTA.
