To take some time off to recharge before deciding on his next adventure, Nick Bell, Snapchat’s Content Head, who built the discover section for the app has stepped down. Nick was responsible for all of Snap’s content and partnerships, which included deals for original video and stories that appear in Snapchat’s Discover section.

Nick will be replaced by former HuffPost, CEO Jared Grusd, who was hired by Snapchat as Chief Strategy Officer this October.

In a company memo to staff, Nick wrote, “From my very first meeting with Evan [Spiegel], I knew this was going to be an extraordinary journey. Thanks to the hard work of our amazing team, we have built Discover into a world-leading media platform.”

He congratulated the company for all the success it has achieved in these years and added, “This experience has been incredibly rewarding and an absolute blast. I leave now with amazing memories, many lifelong friendships, and a huge amount of excitement for the future of Snap.”

Jared who replaces Nick has done his MBA from Columbia University - Columbia Business School and has also earned the Doctor of Law from University of Chicago Law School. He was the CEO of HuffPost for three years  from 2015 to 2018. Before joining HuffPost, he was General Counsel & Global Head of Corporate Development at Spotify. Jared has also worked in companies like Google and Capegemini.

Reportedly, Snap has recently stepped up its originals plan, launching its first full slate of original programming in the US in October and striking new partnerships for programming in the UK with the likes of Sky and Vice. As Nick passes the baton to Jared, the task to support and lead Snapchat for its next steps lies on Jared’s shoulder.

How will Snapchat's content transform under Jared's leadership is something to watch out for.
