The South China Morning Post announced on August 31 that it has appointed Qin Sheng as the leader of its People Department, effective the same day. Sheng, who will be based in Hong Kong, will be responsible for overseeing the department's strategy and planning, driving learning and growth initiatives, and supervising employee engagement and organizational development.

Sheng previously served as Group Senior Director of People & Culture at H&H group. Prior to that, she was the HR Director at LVMH Fashion Group Asia Pacific, where her initiatives included the introduction of digital initiatives for employee experience and the deployment of diversity programmes. Citing the use of technology and analytics in SCMP's HR programs, she said:

“It is an exciting time to join a leading media company that embraces digital transformation initiatives while placing a strong emphasis on values, communication and an overwhelming dedication to building its people."

Gary Liu, CEO of SCMP, said of her appointment: “We are delighted to have Sheng join our leadership team. The coronavirus pandemic has introduced new challenges and new opportunities in the workplace, and Sheng’s expertise and experience will help elevate SCMP’s value-driven culture, people-first strategies, and overall employee experience.”

SCMP, a legacy media organization dating back more than a century, had successfully overhauled itself in the late 2010s to digitally transform its operational and newsroom processes.
