Unilever's CHRO joins British Telecom as Non-executive Director

British Telecom's Chairman Jan du Plessis believes that the new leader on board with her deep understanding of the strategic and practical challenges of driving large scale cultural transformation will help shape the future of their business.
Unilever's CHRO joins British Telecom as Non-executive Director

Unilever's CHRO, Leena Nair British Telecom's (BT) board as a Non-executive Director from 10th July 2019. She will also be a member of the Remuneration Committee, the Nominations Committee and the Digital Impact & Sustainability Committee. 

BT’s Chairman Jan du Plessis welcomed Nair and said, “We are delighted to welcome Leena to BT. She brings a deep understanding of the strategic and practical challenges of driving large scale cultural transformation, making her an excellent addition to the Board.”

Nair is also excited to join the board. She said, “I am delighted to be invited to join the Board of BT, an iconic company. I am looking forward to making a contribution to shape the future of this exciting business in a dynamic sector.”

Nair has been the Chief Human Resources Officer at Unilever since March 2016. She heads the global people agenda for Unilever’s 160,000 employees. Also a member of Unilever’s leadership executive team, Nair has outstanding record in driving large scale change and transformation. 

She was the first woman on HUL’s management committee and its youngest Executive Director. 

In 2007, she became the first woman in the Management Committee of Hindustan Unilever in 90 years to head HR. She was also the first woman to be on the Unilever South Asia Leadership Team a year later. She had then taken the responsibility for Unilever's growth in markets including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. 

Besides being associated with Unilever, Nair is also a Non-executive Director of the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy since 2018 and is chair of its Nominations and Governance Committee. 

The  first female, first Asian, youngest ever CHRO of Unilever, recognized as the LinkedIn Top Voice 2018, Nair aims to build an inclusive environment where all members of our diverse society can contribute and succeed in equal measure.
