Shopper360 ropes in former Facebook executive as Group CEO

Shopper360 has appointed former Facebook Malaysia client partner Matthew Ho to accelerate the development of the company's strategic offerings under a newly created role of Group Chief Executive Officer.

The new role and Matthew’s appointment will ease the responsibilities of Executive Chairman and Group Managing Director Chew Sue Ann and enable her to focus on her role as the chairman.

Chew said, "We are reviewing several mergers and acquisitions opportunities and joint ventures that will strengthen our digital offering. I look forward to partnering with Ho to seize those opportunities, that will complement our core competencies, and help us build a sustainable business for the future."

Matthew brings in more than 10 years of experience and new energy to help drive strategic growth and development for Malaysia’s marketing services company, Shopper360. Besides Facebook he has worked with Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) as regional director and had also held positions at Mediaedge:cia Malaysia, WPP Marketing Communications, Better and Media Two Point Zero.

Shopper360 that provides customers with in-store marketing and advertising services, and with the hiring and management of marketers got listed in 2017 and since then it has undergone several leadership changes.

In November 2017, the company hired James Ling (also Chew's husband) as Executive Director and then later in January, Ravichandran K. Moorthy resigned as non-executive, non-independent director to facilitate the reconstitution of the board. Followed by Samuel Chan's resignation in April. Samuel had stepped down from his role of Regional Director of Shopper360 units Pos Ad and ShopperPlus amid investigations into allegations of misconduct. Pos Ad is Shopper360's in-store advertising arm.

In the month of April itself, Shopper360 redesignated Janice Cheah Boon Chin as Chief Executive of Retail Galaxy, which houses conflicting brands in Shopper360's field force segment, from the Chief Executive of Jump Retail, the group's field force management arm. Then in June 2018, Shopper360 terminated Cheah, saying that she had not met expectations as CEO of Retail Galaxy, and appointed business development and operations general manager Lee Jun Ling as business lead for Retail Galaxy. Later in July Lee was confirmed as the Head of Retail Galaxy. The company also hired Ooi Chee Kee as chief executive of Jump Retail. Then recently, in August, the firm appointed Tan Swee Seng as CEO of Pos Ad and ShopperPlus, effective September 2018.

With several changes in its leadership team, Shopper360 wants to ensure that the best talent leads its key businesses and spearhead the company towards its next phase of growth. The latest appointment of Matthew as Group Chief will be crucial for the marketing services firm as it looks to strengthen its core competencies. How Shopper360 flourishes and moves into the next phase of development under Mathew's leadership is to watch out for.
