Monetary Authority of Singapore names new chairman

Monetary Authority of Singapore names new chairman

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has announced the appointment of the chairman of the MAS Board of Directors. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong will be appointed as chairman of MAS for a period of three years.  Wong’s appointment will come into effect on July 8 and end on May 31, 2026.

Wong has been Deputy Chairman of MAS since June 1, 2021, and had previously served as a member of the MAS Board from June 2011 to August 2016.

In his new role as chairman of MAS, Wong has replaced the senior minister and coordinating minister for social policies Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who has served as Chairman of MAS for twelve years since May 2011 and will step down from July 8.

MAS has also appointed Gan Kim Yong, Minister for Trade and Industry, to the MAS Board as Deputy Chairman for the period from July 8, 2023, to May 31, 2026.
