360 and IFlytek make AI models available to the public in China

China's 360 Security Technology and iFlytek joined the ranks of tech companies releasing their artificial intelligence (AI) models for public access.

In contrast to several other nations, China mandates that companies undergo security assessments and obtain clearance before making AI products accessible to the public. 

Recently, authorities have ramped up their initiatives to bolster companies engaged in AI development, recognising the growing importance of this technology in the competitive landscape, particularly in comparison to the United States, reported Reuters. 

iFlytek, headquartered in Hefei, announced the launch of its Spark AI model. Meanwhile, 360 Security Technology, based in Beijing, known for its antivirus software, introduced its own AI model, named Zhinao, reported state-backed Securities Times.

Baidu Inc and SenseTime Group revealed last Thursday that they are introducing ChatGPT-style chatbots to the public following the receipt of government approval.
