78% of Vietnamese workers are looking to change jobs in 2019

Due to a lack of career advancement opportunities, most Vietnamese workers are looking to change job in the year 2019.

A survey by Vietnam-based recruitment firm, VietnamWorks noted that up to 78 percent of Vietnamese workers are looking to change jobs in 2019 to seek better roles and salaries. The survey which saw the participation of 900 professionals, found that lack of career advancement opportunities (30 percent), salary (24 percent) and training (21 percent) are the top three factors for changing jobs.

Among the 900 participants, almost six out of 10 plans to switch job in January 2019, while less than a third (26 percent) will switch after the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday around February 2-10. On the other hand, a minority of them cited stress (10 percent), or dissatisfaction with bosses (8 percent).

It was also revealed that Ho Chi Minh City topped the market with the highest job offers and job growth at 15 percent, amidst the rising trend of job offers in the country.  The number of job applicants in the capital also rose by just three percent, while Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province in the south saw the highest growth at 45 percent, followed by Long An Province in the Mekong Delta at 22 percent.

In terms of job functions, Sales made the highest number of offer followed by Finance and Administration. The number of applications in online media increased and is at 27 percent this year, while that of retail went up by 22 percent and quality assurance and quality control grew by 21 percent.

The number of job offers in Vietnam this year has gone up 11 percent over last year, while that of applications has increased by five percent, VietnamWorks said.
