Amazon has turned out to be one of the biggest brands that have fired its employees during the ongoing economic slowdown. After a series of layoffs, the company is now shutting three warehouses in Britain which will impact 1,200 jobs. 

However, according to Thomson Reuters, the workers will be given the chance to transfer to other units, the online retail giant said on Tuesday.

Amazon revealed it opened a consultation to close three older British warehouses this year in Hemel Hampstead, Doncaster, and Gourock, sites employing 1,200 people in one of Amazon’s biggest markets outside the United States.

The affected employees will be given the chance to move jobs internally, with those from the first two sites moving to other warehouses nearby. Also, Amazon has planned to open two new warehouses in central and northeast England over the next three years, a move it said will create 2,500 new jobs.

Amazon operates 30 large warehouses across the United Kingdom.

At the beginning of the year, the Seattle-based online retailing giant revealed shedding 18,000 roles globally, due to slower growth and high inflation.
