Lufthansa Group is planning to hire about 4,500 new employees in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in 2020, including 300 of those positions from the Boeing 777 fleet integration at SWISS.

A majority of the hires, about 3,000, would be done in Germany and will include a combination of replacements and increases in the number of jobs as well. About 1,000 people will hired into the core Lufthansa brand. While 2,500 hires will be based on the ground, about 1,300 flight attendants are set to be hired across the group.

Five hundred new junior level positions are also set to open up including an increasing focus on hiring IT specialists in subsidiaries namely, Lufthansa Industry Solutions and Lufthansa Systems.

SWISS also plans to hire more than 1000 employees in 2020 with about half of them being for the flight attendant roles. As two new Boeing 777s get added to the fleet, it is likely to create more than 300 jobs in cockpit, cabin, and technical areas.

However, in Brussels, the hiring freeze is still on as those subsidiaries undergo internal restructuring and cost-saving measures.

“Due to internal restructuring and cost reduction measures, a hiring freeze prevails at Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, and Lufthansa Cargo, with some exceptions,” according to a statement by the German group.

About 75 percent of the new posts will be in Germany and at present it employs about 138,000 people.
