Arvind Uppal has decided to voluntary retire as Chairman and President Asia-Pacific, Whirlpool Corporation, effective December 31, 2017. But he will continue in his role as Chairman, Whirlpool of India Ltd.

“This has been a very satisfying and fulfilling 12 years, where I have experienced some of the toughest battles and made some of my best friends. I believe the business is now in very good hands and the time has come to pass on the baton,” Uppal said.

Uppal joined Whirlpool of India in February 2005 as Managing Director and was elevated to the position of President Asia-Pacific in 2010. Prior to Whirlpool, he worked with Nestle for over 18 years, having joined that company as a management trainee in 1987.  In 2015, Sunil D'Souza was appointed as the MD of Whirlpool of India Ltd. 

Arvind joined the Board of Akzo Nobel India in April 2011 as an Independent Director. He is also an Independent Director on the Board of Tuscan Capital, a venture capital company.

He is a Chemical Engineer from IIT, Delhi and a Masters in Business Administration from the Faculty of Management Studies, New Delhi. He has also attended a Program for Executive Development at IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland.

I do thank Arvind for leaving this great legacy and I am very pleased to have him continue serve as Chairman of our India business," Marc Bitzer, President and Chief Operating Officer, Whirlpool Corporation said.
