HSBC, a global banking corporation, has appointed Aladdin Hangari as their Head of Global Private Banking Middle East & North Africa (MENA), effective from January 2024. He will be taking over from Sobhi Tabbara, who has resigned from the role.

Aladdin and Sobhi will be co-heads of the region to ensure a smooth transition. Under the leadership of Sobhi, the group expanded its Ultra-High-Net-Worth (UHNW) coverage in key markets, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.

Assuming this role, Aladdin brings over 20 years of core industry experience. Previously, he led Credit Suisse in the capacity of CEO and also held key positions at Qatar LLC, and Aventicum Capital Management Holding AG. His expertise will help the group succeed in all Gulf Cooperation Council nations, building on Sobhi's strong foundation.

Furthermore, the group has also bolstered its Qatar, Switzerland and Israel leadership with the following appointments:

  • Patrick D’Amico as Global Market Head
  • Christian Hiller, Thomas Schaad and Simon Aeschlimann as Relationship Managers
  • Kouroche Achtari as the Market Head for International Switzerland

All of them have previously worked with Credit Suisse as well. They will be joining the office of HSBC’s Qatari desk in Switzerland.

  • Roy Mironi, who was previously with Deutsche Bank has joined HSBC in Israel as Desk Head. He will be operating under the leadership of Oren Ben Ishay, Market Head of Israel and head of Tel Aviv Rep Office.

Welcoming the leaders in these regions, Gabriel Castello, Regional Head of Global Private Banking EMEA and CEO of the Swiss Private Bank stated, “We are extremely pleased to welcome Aladdin and our new colleagues to our ranks, all of whom will be instrumental in continuing our exceptional client service, connecting clients to unique opportunities and tailor-made solutions worldwide. Further strengthening our service across Europe, the Middle East and Africa underlines HSBC’s extensive heritage and reaffirms our position as a leading private bank in the region.”

He extended wishes to Sobhi, saying, “I would also like to pay tribute to Sobhi’s remarkable achievements and thank him for his valuable contribution to HSBC during his 36 years with the bank, where his leadership and vision have been instrumental in building out our impressive portfolio across the Middle East and designing our compelling client offer. His dedication and service have been truly appreciated and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

With these leadership appointments, HSBC bolsters its position across EMEA, serving customers with excellence.
