Layoff 2023: Twilio announces restructure, reduces 17% staff

After reducing its workforce by approximately 11%, in September last year Cloud communications firm Twilio CEO Jeff Lawson has confirmed the second round of layoff.

According to an email sent out to all Twilio employees from CEO Jeff Lawson, the company has decided to part ways with approximately 17% of its team.

“This is upsetting to be sure, so I want to share with you the reasons for making this tough decision, as well as some other changes. It is painful to part ways with so many talented people – but it's necessary to get our two businesses into the right shape to succeed,” wrote Lawson.

Twilio has formed two business units: Twilio Data & Applications, led by Elena Donio, and Twilio Communications.

“The second round of layoff is more driven by the need to organise ourselves differently for success – and the changes needed to enact this new structure. Both the reorganization and the reductions increase our ability to drive profit and growth, both of which are required in this new environment,” added Twilo CEO.

For departing employees, Twilio has confirmed to offer 12 weeks of base pay, plus one week for every year of completed service at Twilio.
