The Ministry of Manpower’s 2018 Foreign Worker Experience Survey has found that foreign workers (FWs) working in Singapore are generally satisfied with their working conditions. Respondents ranked Singapore as a choice work destination and would recommend their families and friends to work here.

About 2,500 Work Permit holders (WPHs) and 500 S Pass holders were polled for the survey.

Speaking on these findings in a speech yesterday, Zaqy Mohamad, Minister of State for Manpower, stated, “I am also heartened that a majority of the respondents felt that MOM had done well in protecting foreign workers. Most of them also found it easy to approach MOM for help, if they faced employment issues or experienced any unfair behavior at work.”

The 2018 survey found that close to 9 in 10 foreign workers were satisfied with working in Singapore. Pay, living conditions, high levels of safety and security in Singapore were the commonly cited reasons for satisfaction. Most of the foreign workers also indicated that the working conditions at their workplaces were safe. In addition, high awareness of channels of information and assistance especially information on their employment rights from MOM were also cited as another reason for satisfaction.

Minister Zaqy further added that MOM will continue to work closely with stakeholders, including employers and non-governmental organizations, to ensure that foreign workers’ well-being and interests are safeguarded.
