Sutapa Sanyal is a speaker, writer, and advisor. She was the first woman IPS officer to serve as Director General (D.G) in U.P. She is the recipient of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services and the ‘Lokmat Samman for Public Administration’ from the Hon. Chief Minister of U.P. Shri Yogi Adityanath, among several other honors and awards.
Ms. Sanyal was recognized as an Indian Woman Leader in 2015 by the UK Govt. and was the only Indian invited to address the Specialists Group on Crimes against Children (ISGCAC) at the INTERPOL in 2017.
Her areas of specialization include Law, Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC), Training & Capacity Development, Gender, Diversity & Inclusion, Security & Safety in the Workplace, and Socio-Economic Development.
Ms. Sanyal also has extensive experience in risk evaluation and fraud prevention, detection and investigation.
As DG Police, she conceptualized and led the U.P. Police Mahila Samman Prakoshth (MSP), an award-winning ISO 9001:2008 certified police unit, for protecting and empowering over 17 crore (170 million) women and children in India's most populous State. She also initiated 'Smart City-Safe City' initiatives across Uttar Pradesh based on a model of Gender-sensitive Community Policing within the PPP framework.
Ms. Sanyal was appointed as the Chairperson of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of the UP Police under the SHW(PPR) Act. She has also worked closely with FICCI, Ernst & Young, SCOPE and PHDCC for better implementation of POSH.
She has served as Advisor (Security) to GAIL India Ltd.
A prolific speaker, Ms. Sanyal has delivered talks at a variety of organizations like INTERPOL, London School of Economics, SCOPE, FICCI, CII, PHDCC, and IIM(L).
