ANZAC Day: How to hire job-seeking veterans

As Australia commemorates ANZAC Day – a day to commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of war heroes – a new online job portal has been launched to connect employers with veterans in need of work.

The Transitional Employment Portal (TEP), funded by the State Government Grant Fund, is the first service of its kind in Australia and aims to make it easier for businesses to recruit veterans.

With the McGowan Labor Government increasing funding to the Anzac Day Trust by $1m per year, the results of the TEP have already been positive, with 112 placements achieved so far.

In addition, a specific section has been created on the portal for veterans' partners and their working-age children to create profiles and seek employment opportunities.

The TEP allows veterans to create a profile and upload their resume, which can be matched with job opportunities by employers who are interested in hiring veterans. Once a company has been approved to be part of the TEP, the platform enables employers to search for veterans in specific industries and directly connect with them through the portal.

"Veterans bring unique skills and experiences to the workforce, and we are proud to support them in finding meaningful employment," said a spokesperson from the State Government. "The TEP provides a valuable resource for veterans seeking employment, and we are encouraged by the early success of the program."

Veterans and employers interested in participating in the TEP can register at www.tep.org.au, demonstrating the commitment to supporting veterans in their transition to civilian employment and promoting positive outcomes for the veteran community in Australia.
