During the chat, Akhil also cast light on the findings of a recent study conducted by Shine.com on the employment landscape of India and why the Tier 1 cities are ahead in the race of emp;oyment generation.
The future of work is about flexibility and respect that employees seek. Thus, employers have to start prioritizing these in order to retain talent. Today, the market is full of opportunities and employees are willing to join companies offering the right set of growth and skills development opportunities. Companies with no or less focus on such matters are prone to losing talent to both moonlighting and quiet quitting.
According to Akhil, “Causes of moonlighting do not limit to finances but also skills. There are many moonlighters who take up a second job to develop additional skills.”
Though there are debates around the concept but “I think moonlighting is a controversial area, but I strongly believe that this has always been there,” said Akhil. He furthered, “ From employer perspective, it's very important that we get maximum out of our employees and moonlighting definitely comes into the way of getting that value.”
However, looking at the concept from the employee lens, “I believe that companies should also be open to the thought that why an employee's getting engaged into these activities.” With the right pay package and enough development and growth opportunities, employees may not feel the need to engage in other activities.
So, fair rewards and compensation should be one of the easiest ways to get rid of the negative impacts of it, according to Akhil.
