Cardiologist Maulik Majmudar joins Amazon’s team

As Amazon plans its way into the $3 Tn healthcare sector, it ropes in one of the top cardiologists, Maulik Majmudar

Maulik, who worked as cardiologist and Associate Director of the health-care transformation lab at Massachusetts General Hospital recently tweeted about his appointment. Although he didn’t reveal the team he would be joining, he wrote that he would be taking on an "exciting and challenging role."

Maulik also gave lectures in MIT and has advised technology companies like Quanttus in the past.

However, Amazon has neither made any announcements regarding this appointment nor has it commented on the matter.

Reports suggest that Amazon has been on a health-care hiring spree and has brought in experts including primary care expert Martin Levine and former FDA Chief Health Information Officer Taha Kass-Hout.

Among the many healthcare-related projects Amazon is working on, its business group is looking to sell medical supplies to hospitals and clinics. Further, its cloud team is selling AI and other advanced technologies to health-care companies. Reportedly, it also has a wellness team within Alexa that is focusing on developing voice applications in health care and its research and development group, dubbed Grand Challenges is working on everything from medical records to telemedicine. To top it all, recently, in June, the company acquired online pharmacy PillPack.

Not just the entire community, Amazon also has an interest in bringing down health costs for its employees through its partnership with J.P Morgan and Berkshire Hathaway, as per reports

A recent survey by Reaction Data showed that healthcare executives believe that Amazon.com will be the company currently outside of healthcare that could make the biggest impact on the industry. These executives believe that Amazon has a huge market they can use to distribute materials and disrupt the entire healthcare sector. However, we still have to wait to know that how and when will this disruption occur.
