World Bank names Amy Doherty as CIO and VP of Information and Technology Solutions

Amy Doherty has been appointed as the World Bank's Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Vice President of Information and Technology Solutions, as announced by Ajay Banga, President of the international financial institution.

Doherty will assume the Information Management and Technology (IMT) portfolio with effect October 2, 2023. She is taking over from Valentin Prudius who served as the Acting World Bank Group CIO and VP of ITS after Denis Robitaille, in January 2022. Robitaille served the World Bank for over 6 years, leading several initiatives, including the Bank's mission to eradicate extreme poverty by 2030, World Bank Group Data Privacy Day, ITS digital transformation strategy, and more. His focus on digital innovation for the Bank's objectives was based on three principles: customer-centric, innovative, and transformative solutions for business partners; value-for-money investments in new technologies; and the provision of a high-performing, robust, and resilient IT environment. 

Announcing Doherty’s appointment, Banga shared, “I am very pleased to have her join the World Bank Group as Chief Information Officer, Technology continues to push the frontier of possible forward just as the World Bank is evolving to be a better bank. Amy has a skill, and will play a critical role, to ensure the Bank is capturing the promise of the former to advance the latter.”

Before her appointment, Doherty held the role of Executive VP and Chief Operating Officer at First Command since 2019. She spearheaded the transformation to agile business practices and an overall modernization of the technology architecture and infrastructure for the financial services company. Prior to this, Doherty held several key roles including, CIO for AARP, Board of Directors for Quest International, Senior Program Director for Freddie Mac, SVP and Chief Information Officer for C&F Bank, VP and CIO for American Financial Realty Trust, and VP and Process Information Officer for GMAC Commercial Mortgage.

Banga also announced the appointment of James Heimbach as Vice President of External and Corporate Relations of the World Bank, stating, “The World Bank is writing a new playbook to create a world free of poverty on a livable planet. Stronger partnerships with multilateral development banks, philanthropies, and civil society, as well as greater global cooperation, are at the core of that work. Jay has a proven track record of building relationships with stakeholders and possesses the skills needed to communicate the impact of our work clearly. This is critical to our success and ability to deliver on our mission,”

Heimbach previously served as the Bank’s Special Representative to North America, Australia, New Zealand, and Israel, working closely with Banga on managing the relationships between the senior leadership of the Bank and key donor governments. Prior to this, he served ONE Campaign in the capacity of Senior Director for North American Government Affairs.
