54% of students in S’pore expect starting salaries of S$3,000-S$4,000

According to the latest survey by BrightSparks, the majority of students in Singapore are expecting to draw a monthly salary between S$3,000 and S$4,000 upon entering the workforce. 

The survey interviewed more than three thousand students from multiple universities (956 respondents), polytechnics (316 respondents) and junior colleges (1,943 respondents). 

More than half, about 54 per cent of the students expected their pay to fall between S$3,000 and S$4,000. 

24% of the respondents from the junior colleges had the highest salary expectations of S$4000, while only 14% of polytechnic students expected the same amount. 

The top key priorities for the job aspirants were career opportunities, job security, and exciting work finds the survey. The students were keen to work in the healthcare sector followed by tech, finance and education. 

The survey also found that the length of a scholarship bond is no longer a top consideration for graduates and undergraduates in Singapore when deciding to apply for scholarships.

The survey also found that the majority of respondents said that two to four years was an acceptable bond duration for local university scholarships and four to six years for overseas universities.
