Standard Chartered Bank, a global consumer banking corporation, has announced the appointment of Mike Samson as the new Chief Executive Officer of its Philippines operations, with immediate effect.

Assuming his new responsibilities, Mike brings around 28 years of core knowledge of the ASEAN markets, encompassing insurance, power, infrastructure, oil and gas, telecommunications, media, technology, mining, transportation, airlines, real estate, logistics, consumer goods, and healthcare. His expertise in building strong client relationships will bolster the bank’s corporate and institutional business in the region.

Mike joined the bank in 2009 and held several leadership roles, including Regional Head of ASEAN, Country Head of Corporate Finance in Singapore, Regional Head of Corporate Finance, ASEAN and South Asia, and his recent role as the CEO and Head of Commercial, Corporate, and Institutional Business.

In his previous roles, Mike served as the Executive Director, Regional Head of Southeast Asia Leveraged Finance at ABN AMRO Bank, Senior Consultant at Andersen Consulting Strategic Services, and Senior Associate at Insular Investment and Trust Corporation.

On the academic front, Mike holds a BA degree (Hons.) in Management Economics from Ateneo de Manila University and an MBA degree in Finance and Strategic Management from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He is an alumnus of the Asian Financial Leaders Programme at the Singapore Management University.

Taking on his new role, Mike commented, “The Philippines is a strategic part of the bank’s ASEAN network with immense opportunities. My key focus is to drive our strategic agenda and leverage our strong ASEAN presence to deliver sustainable growth and value for all our stakeholders.”
