Toshiba Asia Pacific announces Hiroshi Fukuchi as new Managing Director

Toshiba Asia Pacific on 1 July announced the appointment of Hiroshi Fukuchi as the new Managing Director with immediate effect. He is also the Corporate Representative for Asia Pacific to parent conglomerate Toshiba Corporation, and will be responsible for overseeing and expanding Toshiba's group-wide business presence in Southeast Asia, India, and Oceania. He succeeds Ryuji Maruyama, who has moved to the position of Corporate Representative for the Americas.

Fukuchi has been with Toshiba since 1982, spending the majority of his career in the semiconductor and storage products businesses. He has more than three decades of experience in executive management, strategic business and production planning. Prior to his new appointment, he held various senior executive roles including President and Chief Executive Officer, Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation, and Corporate Senior Vice President of Toshiba Corporation.

He said of his new role: "Toshiba recognizes Asia Pacific as a key manufacturing base and potential high growth market especially countries like India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam coupled with our strategic presence in Singapore.”

In the announcement, Fukuchi also reiterated Toshiba's strategy going forward, which he said will involve building on the company's traditional strengths in energy, infrastructure, electronic devices and storage, and digital solutions. He added that in line with Toshiba's move to mitigate climate change and achieve carbon neutrality, digitalisation and de-carbonisation will be the key focus.
