Temasek names COO Chia Song Hwee as deputy CEO

Singapore's Temasek International has made a slew of management changes, in which it named Chief Operating Officer Chia Song Hwee as its deputy Chief Executive and Rohit Sipahimalani, currently the joint head of its investment group, as its chief investment strategist.

The changes are the first ones to be made ever since the group appointed senior executive Dilhan Pillay as its new CEO earlier this year. In his new role, Chia Song will work with CEO Pillay to drive strategic and institutional initiatives as well as oversee activities related to its portfolio, investments, and technology.

Among other management changes, Chan Wai Ching was appointed Chief Corporate Officer to focus on strengthening Temasek's talent bench, build its people and talent capabilities and create new corporate capabilities for the next phase of growth while Png Chin Yee, who is currently head of Financial Services, will be appointed Deputy Chief Financial Officer as well to oversee the Finance Group with CFO Leong Wai Leng. Tan Chong Lee and Uwe Krueger will be named joint heads of the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) office. Similarly, Mukul Chawla will be appointed the joint head of North America to work alongside John Vaske, who continues in his role as head of the Americas.

In a statement, CEO Pillay stated, “The world in which we operate is becoming increasingly complex. We need to make sure our organizational structure gives us the clarity and robustness to deal with this complexity, while delivering on our strategic and institutional initiatives."

The changes come into effect on January 1 next year.

Temasek International is the wholly-owned management and investment arm of state investor Temasek Holdings, one of the world's biggest investors with a total portfolio of S$313 Bn (US$230.3 Bn) as of March 2019. With these changes, Temasek hopes to continue to evolve as it develops talent, build capabilities, tackle challenges and strengthens its portfolio.
