eBay creates Global Chief Growth Officer role

eBay has announced the appointment of Julie Loeger as Global Chief Growth Officer, a newly created role that oversees the e-commerce giant's global teams for customer acquisition, retention, and service. The appointment will be effective in January 2021.

Loeger is presently the President of US Cards at Discover Financial Services, where she has spent almost 30 years and held various positions in global marketing, strategy, brand management, and product development, including Chief Marketing Officer.

According to Jamie Iannone, CEO of eBay, the Chief Growth Officer role will involve driving the overall company strategy focused specifically on attracting and retaining customers while identifying new pathways for growth. Loeger will head a newly formed Global Growth Organization comprising the Global Marketing and Global Customer Experience teams.

Iannone said: “I'm impressed by Julie's approach to driving customer-focused innovation throughout her 30-year career. She has a demonstrated history of building strong ties between product and business teams."

Bringing in Loeger, with her extensive experience with financial services, may be related to eBay's move to take over the management of payments for its sellers, a fee-based service that was introduced earlier this year. eBay has said it eventually plans to make managed payments mandatory for all sellers.
