Facebook’s VP of Communications Caryn Marooney quits to return to product & tech

Facebook’s Vice President of Communications, Caryn Marooney, is leaving the company after eight years.

Previously the co-founder of The Outcast Agency, Marooney came onboard the Facebook team in 2011 and assumed the role of Director of Technology Communications. She represented the company while at Outcast.

With the recent state of disturbance on an international level at Facebook, Marooney has been handling global communications. She would be continuing in her role until her replacement is ready to take over.

“I spent a lot of time over the winter holiday reflecting, and with the New Year, and after 8 years at Facebook, I’ve decided to step down as leader of the communications group,” Marooney stated in her Facebook post. “I will work with Mark, Sheryl and Nick to identify a replacement and get them up and running.”

Marooney stated that she has decided to go back into tech and product and that it was “time to get back to my roots.”

When Rachel Whetsone who worked in Uber prior to Facebook announced that she was moving to Netflix in August 2018, Marooney took over all the responsibility for global communications and reported to Clegg.

“With Nick Clegg settled in at Facebook, this felt like the right time to start the transition,” she added referring to the former deputy prime minister of the United Kingdom who was hired to lead Facebook’s global policy and communications.
