Flex Malaysia plans to double its PwD workforce

Sketch-to-Scale solutions provider Flex Malaysia has recently launched a persons with disabilities program (PwD program) in Johor, in line with the company’s recent hiring of 30 PwD employees in Flex Skudai and Flex Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Johor.

The company has hired 30 PwD employees in its Johor office and 120 employees in Penang office, in partnership with the Johor Deaf Association and JobsMalaysia.

The company is also planning to double its PwD workforce and intends to triple this figure for its Johor operations in the near future.

The company will provide classroom and on-the-job training for these employees with this program, to equip them to do “interesting and meaningful work”, according to a report. The employees will also be provided with opportunities to gain new skills.

To ensure staff is prepared to receive the new PwD employees, they need to undergo a sign language training program conducted by the Johor Deaf Association.

Viswanathan Paramasivam, Flex’s Vice President of Operations, said: “We noticed that hearing-impaired employees were not given equal career opportunities in the industry, and we wanted to make a difference in their lives. We want to hire, develop and empower hearing-impaired employees so that they can achieve their full potential.

“We also believe in creating an inclusive and diverse ‘Flex Family’. Just like a real family, we want to meet our people’s social, emotional, developmental and communication needs, including that of hearing-impaired employees,” he added.
