Uber not planning layoffs: CEO Dara Khosrowshahi

Uber is not considering any company-wide layoffs, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said at the World Economic Forum's meeting in Davos.

Khosrowshahi's assurance to his employees comes days after several IT companies decided to sack their staff.

Tech giants such as Amazon, Microsoft, and others reduced headcounts in large numbers setting off a sacking spree among other medium and small firms which are also following suit.

According to media reports, the Uber CEO said that almost 20 per cent of Uber's car fleet could be self-driving in the next 12 to 15 years.

Uber's CEO also mentioned that the company is interested in talking to manufacturers about purpose-built ride-sharing cars.

On Thursday, Amazon’s biggest round of job cuts saw the departure of over 18,000 people. The firm started its first round of layoffs last November and has now begun notifying its employees affected by its new round of layoffs.

Similarly, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on Wednesday said that the company has decided to slash five per cent of its workforce or 10,000 employees by the end of the third quarter of the financial year 2022-23 (FY23) as the firm braces for an economic downturn.
