Online Food Delivery Company, Deliveroo Singapore recently announced its plans to encourage 1,000 riders to finish at least one training course among the wide range of learning programs offered by the firm by the end of 2021. This upskilling measure had been undertaken by Deliveroo to support its riders in their learning journey.

Under its training program, Deliveroo has collaborated with education platform OpenClassrooms to offer 700 free online courses to Deliveroo riders and their families to diversify their skills. Around 300 Deliveroo riders in Singapore have learned at least one course on the platform since its inception in 2019. The aim of the initiative is to provide an opportunity for riders to study subjects that will be a huge helping hand in their educational and professional development.

These 700 online courses include topics such as language, e-commerce, business management, programming, and coding which are held in varying lengths, from an hour to several months.

There is no limit to the number of courses they can study. Riders can take these classes at their own pace. The participants will get a Certificate of Completion upon the completion of each course which can be used for future job applications.

With the help of OpenClassrooms, Deliveroo has formed a scholarship scheme to fund associate-level degree programs from renowned universities. Six-month-long associate-level degree programs in courses such as Web Developer and Digital Marketing are being offered to Deliveroo riders. These courses require them to study 20 hours per week. Building responsive, dynamic websites and learning how to write HTML, CSS and JavaScript code are being taught to participants of the Web Developer course. The Digital Marketing course teaches how to leverage digital tools to generate leads and drive customer sales via digital marketing campaigns to the students. A dedicated career coach will be assigned to Deliveroo scholars who will assist them in getting their dream job in a relevant field. Plans to fund more scholarships programs by Deliveroo are underway. Two Deliveroo riders have completed their scholarships and one is currently taking up the programme.

In its bid to upskill more riders, Adept Academy has been added to Deliveroo’s burgeoning list of learning offerings. Adept Academy is a training organisation that is widely known for its holistic suite of professional development programs that encourage the enhancement of pertinent knowledge and skills. Deliveroo riders can use their SkillsFuture credits to join various upskilling courses such as Essential Service Skills, Respond to Service Challenges, and Introduction to Electric Vehicles.

Sarah Tan, General Manager, Deliveroo Singapore said that Deliveroo is committed to upskilling its riders by providing training opportunities and courses. It always encourages them to take up the courses to unlock their potential.

Previously, Deliveroo established a partnership with Central Singapore CDC to offer a tailored SkillsFuture Advice workshop covering key trends in the workplace and matched riders’ desired skill sets in January 2021. An investment of  $9,000 was made by Deliveroo in a funding scheme for riders to subsidise part of their SkillsFuture course fees to encourage lifelong learning.
