Kristin Carlos appointed as News Corp Australia’s New Managing Director

Former Facebook Head of Media Partnerships adds another feather to her cap, vowing to ramp up digital talent.

News Corp Australia has hired Kristin Carlos to head its digital platform business called News Xtend and augment its digital talent. Since its inception seven years ago, News Xtend is an organisation that has specialized in forming targeted digital campaigns for small and medium companies. It has witnessed robust growth and progress over the last few years.

Carlos will be leading the Platform Division and will be responsible for redesigning and improving News Corp Australia’s commercial model and providing an overhauling, wide-spanning end-to-end customer experience to a variety of clients by using the platforms of News Xtend and News Connect. “The role presents an exciting opportunity to grow the digital platform business and to lead a key function at Australia’s premier digital media company,” she said.

She will report and give updates to Michael Ford, Chief Financial Officer. Ford praised her amply and said that Carlos would create a stupendous track record and develop innovative and path-breaking client solutions for News Corp Australia.

He said: “She brings to News Corp Australia a customer-centric focus to technology solutions and demonstrated success in developing high-performance teams. It’s great to have her join us and we all look forward to working closely with Kristin.” He also remarked, “Kristin has a wealth of digital experience in a range of senior roles”.

In her career trajectory, Carlos has donned various senior executive roles for well over a decade in companies like Yahoo!. She was also the director of connected entertainment, and she headed the Digital & Entertainment division at Qantas. She was responsible for the digital strategy, execution, and commercialisation across Qantas media from inflight entertainment, mobile apps, social media, and branded content (TV, digital, and magazine) to Qantas Wi-Fi portal as well.

She also donned a senior management role developing the launch strategy for Qantas Wi-Fi portal including website development, customer experience, content acquisition, and commercialisation. She was also one of the important members leading marketing operations across Qantas marketing including advertising and content production, media buying, social media, and email marketing.

Prior to Qantas, she was head of media partnerships across Australia and New Zealand at Facebook.
