HSBC names Georges Elhedery as group CFO

Elhedery will take over from Ewen Stevenson as group chief financial officer on January 1, the bank said in a statement accompanying its third quarter results.
HSBC names Georges Elhedery as group CFO

HSBC Holdings has appointed Georges Elhedery as the group’s chief financial officer and an executive director of the Board from January 1, 2023. 

Ewen Stevenson will be stepping down as group CFO and executive director on 31 December 2022 and will leave HSBC in April 2023, the company said in a statement along with its third quarter earnings.

Greg Guyett is appointed chief executive of global banking and markets (GBM), effective immediately. 

Noel Quinn, Group Chief Executive of HSBC, said: Greg has valuable experience both outside and, since late 2018, inside HSBC, and has done a great job leading Global Banking and Markets during Georges’ recent sabbatical.  

Ewen Stevenson, Group Chief Financial Officer, said: It has been an absolute privilege to be part of the senior team leading a fundamental turnaround of the operating performance of HSBC over recent years. I would like to warmly thank my colleagues.

Elhedery joined HSBC in 2005 as a senior global markets executive with trading experience in London, Paris and Tokyo. He later moved to Dubai and served as regional head of global markets, Middle East and North Africa (MENA); then as head of global banking & markets, MENA; and later as CEO for HSBC, Middle East, North Africa and Turkey. More recently, Elhedery served as head of global markets based in London.

More recently, Elhedery served as head of global markets based in London. In March 2020, Elhedery was appointed co-CEO of global banking and markets.
