Boeing appoints special adviser to CEO and the board amid crisis

Crashes in Ethiopia in March and Indonesia in October have triggered the grounding of Boeing's fastest-selling plane, lawsuits, and investigations.
Boeing appoints special adviser to CEO and the board amid crisis

Boeing Co has named Michael Luttig as special adviser to the CEO Dennis Muilenburg and the board of directors. Luttig has been with the company as general counsel since 2006.

The appointment has been made as Boeing faces a crisis in years after two deadly crashes of its 737 MAX.

Amid the crisis, Luttig, who is often listed among the highest paid general counsels of publicly traded companies, will anchor Boeing's legal defense over the crashes of Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302.

While Luttig takes care of the new responsibilities, Brett Gerry, who has been president of Boeing Japan since 2016, will replace him as general counsel.

Luttig has previously worked with the U.S. 4th Circuit Court of Appeals and as assistant counsel to former President Ronald Reagan and as a law clerk to Antonin Scalia before he joined the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also served as a clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Warren Burger.

The rich experience he has had over the years will help him play an instrumental role in restoring the trust of customers, passengers, and regulators for Boeing.

What new steps does Luttig introduce and how he helps Boeing tackle the crisis are a few things to look forward to.
