Meet the mentors for TechHRSG Startup Program 2020

After mentoring and guiding some early-stage HR Tech startups last year, People Matters TechHR Startup Program Singapore is back with another great panel of leaders from the HR industry and investors from some of the leading VC firms like Golden Equator, SPH Ventures and STRIVE.
Meet the mentors for TechHRSG Startup Program 2020

People Matters TechHR Startup Program Singapore 2020 is an opportunity for the early-stage startups in the HR technology space to interact with investors and mentors and learn from them. By participating in the program these startups get a chance to be part of the conference, showcase at the Startup Zone, meet investors one-2-one, and attend exclusive masterclasses. 

After mentoring and guiding some early-stage HR Tech startups last year, this year the program is back with another great panel of leaders from the HR industry and investors from some of the leading VC firms.

Here are five of the many mentors who will guide the HR tech startups who are part of People Matters TechHR Startup Program Singapore 2020 to build a better future:

Cindy Teoh

Associate Director, Investments, Golden Equator

Cindy has reviewed hundreds of privately-held companies from pre-seed startups to pre-IPO enterprises as well as some public-listed firms. Apart from having mentored entrepreneurs at Tech in Asia 2015, Slush 2016 and RISE 2017, Cindy has also conducted a masterclass on Innovation in the Public Sector for the statutory board of Singapore's Ministry of National Development, as well as presented the fundamentals for building a sustainable FinTech and ecommerce ecosystem to Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Information. 

Currently, Cindy Teoh-Cavefors is an Associate Director of the Venture Capital Investments at Golden Equator Capital, a Singapore-based fund-management firm with the Capital Markets Services license from the country's central bank. She has led deals in Enterprise Software, FinTech and Consumer Internet businesses (HR Tech, PropTech, New Media). 

Golden Equator Capital’s portfolio includes HR tech startup Glints, B2B solution for the F&B industry Eunoia and fintech startup MYPAY, among others.

Supriya Singh

Head of South Asia Investments, JAFCO Investment (Asia Pacific) Ltd

With expertise in venture capital and private equity management consulting, Supriya has been heading South Asia Investments for JAFCO Investment (Asia Pacific) Ltd since 2012. Before that she has worked as Consultant in firms like Accenture and A.T. Kearney. Her project responsibilities included corporate growth/acquisition strategy, operational optimization, organizational restructuring and analytical/financial modelling for Asian clients. 

As venture capitalist now, Supriya’s key focus areas are telecom, internet and digital media. She serves on the board of various South Asia portfolio companies including Singapore based insurance startup Roadzen, AdAsia Holdings and Teabox, among others.

Kevin Low

Venture Capital Investments, Singapore Press Holdings, SPH Ventures

In the beginning of his career, Kevin worked with companies like Epson Singapore and UTAC as Product Marketing Executive and Test Supervisor. Much later in 2010 he moved on to the finance and investment domain and worked as Senior Associate, Valuation/M&A at Stone Forest Corporate Advisory. In 2012 he joined Singapore Press Holdings Ltd as Manager, Corporate Development (M&A) - Technology Sector and executed strategic transactions involving early-stage investments, acquisitions and divestments in the technology sector. 

In his most recent role, he works as Director (Investments), SPH Ventures, a $75 Mn corporate venture capital fund of Singapore Press Holdings. Kevin’s focus is on early and growth stage investments in Media Tech, Consumer Services, Enterprise Tech and Fintech.

He has led and completed 24 investments in early and growth stage companies across South East Asia and the US with three exits and three investments in early-stage venture capital funds. 

SPH Ventures’ portfolio includes Pathmatics, Moneysmart, and Crowdynews, among others.

Simon Childs

Managing Director, ENRG Hong Kong Limited

Simon’s early career in Asia was spent with the Royal Hong Kong Police, where he worked as Detective Inspector in the Commercial Crime Bureau as well as a Team Leader in VIP Protection unit. Later he worked as an Operations Manager for a HK based export business, where he focused on opening new offices and managing supply and quality issues across Southern China. He then also moved to Japan where he co-founded CDS, a Tokyo based executive search firm, which he later sold to Recruit Inc.

In Hong Kong also he worked with an executive search firm RGF as Managing Director. He spent several years building a start-up business for RGF and developed the relationship with China’s largest recruiting business, Bo Le Associates, into which he merged RGF HK’s business. 

Now at ENRG, Simon is focused on M&A, and some other strategic and recruiting initiatives for RGF and other clients. ENRG, an integrated HR solutions for the recruitment industry also invests in and advises a number of HR tech startups.

Nikhil Kapur

Principal & Investment Head (South Asia), STRIVE

STRIVE, based in Japan, Southeast Asia, and India, focuses on investing in early-stage (seed to Series A) startups. In Southeast Asia, they have invested in startups like Crowde, Ayopop, YOYO HOLDINGS PTE. LTD. and PT Bukalapak.com. Nikhil Kapur, Principal & Investment Head (South Asia), STRIVE based in Singapore is one of the leaders to cover investments across Southeast Asia and India, a position he holds just three years after joining the venture capital firm as an intern.

Nikhil’s focus so far has been on consumer and enterprise startups covering financial inclusion, health, sustainability and skills development. He is on the lookout for solutions that can be taken to solve the problems of the masses in the region.

In an interaction with People Matters earlier, Nikhil had earlier shared, “There is a need for more Seed investments mostly to help foster an experimental market where entrepreneurs are encouraged to take risks and iterate. There are two ways of doing that, one by involving more and more angel investors in the ecosystem and two by launching targeted micro-funds.”
